Event
Ideas
Are you considering hosting a Valentine’s Day dance for 100
couples or an intimate dinner for two? Karl’s Event Rental
can help create a memorable romantic holiday for your event. This
year’s holiday falls on Saturday and is the ideal day for
a romantic occasion. Your invitation can be as simple as a silk
rose petal with a ribbon and note attached or as elegant as a pearl-embellished
heart with the pertinent information. Begin your experience by having
your guests enter the room on a red carpet (everyone is special
on Valentine’s Day). Continue the theme with candlelight on
each table with our 36” high silver candelabra. Consider renting
elegant table linens such as a pink satin, red satin, a white lace
overlay, or a white imperial-striped linen with coordinating pink
pastel chair ties as a table runner and napkins. Table sizes range
from a 36” for two people to a 72” for five couples.
Twinkle lights add a soft touch underneath a table linen as well.
Decorating can continue with helium-filled heart balloons filled
with confetti and gift certificates from local businesses (for that
intimate dinner, the balloons can be filled with intangible certificates
redeemable for “an evening away from the kids”, “a
foot rub”, or “it’s your night to cook”
coupons). Music selections for the evening can include soft romantic
ballads from Luther Vandross to Elvis Presley to Frank Sinatra.

“Now’s
the time for retail businesses to plan their 2004 promotional events…”
Here are six effective promotions that retail businesses can plan
in 2004.
-
Promotions - Plan an anniversary promotion, not necessarily
your 10-year or 25-year , celebrate your 7th year in business
with a “buy seven, get one free” or “roll
back the prices to your founding year” – incorporate
signs, banners and balloons to draw in customers.
-
Contests
- Hold one in your establishment … Why I like my (your
product here), or an art contest for kids. Judges can be from
the local high school or community college. Maybe all you need
is a “count the jellybeans in the jar” contest with
the winner getting free merchandise or services. Your business
will be the center of attention as well as getting some free
publicity.
-
Sweepstakes
- while fun yet tricky, be sure to check your state’s
governing rules. Most states, “no punch necessary”
is the norm. However, the entrant can be required to come to
your business to sign up. On a given date, draw the winner.
Negotiate with other merchants to donate prizes in exchange
for the publicity.
-
Coupons
– These are especially effective when introducing a new
product. Ask manufacturers for available “co-op advertising
dollars”. Utilize free circulars to put coupons for popular
merchandise and get the prospects into your store.
-
Product
demonstrations – conduct a “how to” seminar
demonstrating your services or a seminar on the “aesthetic
art” of using your product. Schedule the demonstration
well in advance with publicity and advertising. Use a more well-known
and respected demonstrator to ensure a successful promotion.
-
Product
giveaways – nothing draws customers like the word “FREE”.
Give away a popular (but inexpensive) item with any purchase.
This promotion gets people into your place of business. Once
there, it is up to you and your point-of-sale materials to sell
them. Ask a manufacturer for a tie-in or to share in the cost
of advertising in exchange for using its name in your publicity
and advertising.
Plan your promotional
calendar in advance and reap the benefits of a prosperous business
and better bottom line all year long.
